DAY 1 – Arrival in Nairobi – Mara Big Five Tented Camp

Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will be met and transferred towards the Masai Mara National Reserve. Continue to the Mara Big Five Tented Camp, arriving in time for lunch and check-in. In the afternoon, visit a traditional Maasai village.

DAY 2 – Mara Big Five Tented Camp

After breakfast at the camp, enjoy a full-day game drive in the reserve with a picnic lunch. Observe elephants, gazelles, giraffes, warthogs, wildebeests, zebras, impalas, lions, cheetahs and leopards – and many more species in their natural habitat.

Short Biography – Johnny Krüger

Johnny Krüger has a special fascination for animals in motion. Born in 1961 and raised in South Africa, he discovered his deep passion for wildlife and photography at an early age. Since 1980, he has been photographing animals in their natural environment. He is a reference photographer for the lens manufacturer SIGMA and has received numerous national and international awards. Noteworthy achievements include successes at the Trierenberg Super Circuit and the Sony Awards. Johnny Krüger was named “German Champion 2018” by the German Association for Photography (DVF) and received the “Ludwig for Nature Photography” at the 2014 Pirmasens Photo Days. He holds the title “Master of FIAP” (Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique / International Federation of Photographic Art).

DAY 1: 31 July 2026 – Arrival in Nairobi

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to recover from the journey.

DAY 2: 1 August 2026 – Nairobi – Nyeri

After breakfast, you drive north towards Mount Kenya and onward to Nyeri. Lunch will be served en route at the famous Trout Tree Restaurant, built inside a giant fig tree. In the afternoon, there is time to observe and photograph colobus monkeys and tree hyraxes.

DAY 3: 2 August 2026 – Solio Conservancy

Today you explore the private Solio Conservancy, one of Africa’s most successful rhino sanctuaries. During a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch, you will encounter rhinos, buffaloes, zebras and other wildlife with Mount Kenya as a backdrop.

DAY 4: 3 August 2026 – Nyeri – Samburu

After breakfast, you drive north into the dry Samburu ecosystem. A stop at Kisima Point offers opportunities to photograph chameleons and other small animals. In the afternoon, you embark on your first game drive in Samburu National Reserve.

DAY 5: 4 August 2026 – Samburu National Reserve

A full day of safari in the Samburu Reserve with morning and afternoon game drives. Rare species such as the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, Beisa oryx and gerenuk – the “Samburu Special Five” – are found here.

DAY 8: 7 August 2026 – Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Today you explore the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, home to the world’s last two northern white rhinos. Alongside rhinos, you will also see elephants, lions and chimpanzees in the Jane Goodall Sanctuary.

DAY 9: 8 August 2026 – Flight to Amboseli

After breakfast, drive to Nairobi and take a short flight to Amboseli. In the afternoon, you enjoy your first game drive in the national park – with some luck, framed by the impressive Kilimanjaro.

DAY 10: 9 August 2026 – Amboseli National Park

Full-day safari in Amboseli with a picnic lunch. The park is famous for its large elephant herds, including the iconic bull “Craig,” one of Africa’s oldest elephants.

DAY 11: 10 August 2026 – Amboseli – Tsavo East

The Coconut Beach Lodge

Located directly on Tiwi Beach, the Coconut Beach Lodge offers a wonderful view of crystal-clear water and the unspoilt beach. You can expect newly renovated rooms and a sustainable lodge concept. The air conditioning is energy-efficient and the electricity and hot water are generated using solar energy. Let yourself go at this small, family-run lodge, which is located directly on one of Kenya’s most beautiful private beaches. Activities

Tiwi Turtle Police. Learn interesting facts from the rangers. With a bit of luck, you can help release newly hatched baby turtles into the sea.
Excursions. Explore the Indian Ocean and its wildlife on boat trips! Snorkelling in Kinondo – a huge natural pool; Wasini Island – snorkelling & dolphin watching; snorkelling with whale sharks – a unique experience.
On the mainland, you can learn more about the local people, explore the history of slavery and Kenya’s stunning coastline and Wasili Island during the Swahili excursion.

Standard

The Standard rooms are divided into ‘Beach View’ and ‘Garden View’. They are equipped with a double bed, wardrobe, desk & chair, fans, air conditioning, safe and en-suite bathroom. There is a cosy seating area on the veranda. From the ‘Beach View’ rooms you can enjoy a fantastic view of the turquoise-coloured sea. In the ‘Garden View’ rooms you sit under palm trees and look out over the lovingly landscaped garden.

Superior

The superior rooms are more spacious and offer more room. They have the same facilities as the standard rooms, but also have a cosy seating area. On the veranda there is another comfortable seating area as well as a day bed, where you can snooze and look out over the turquoise-coloured sea or the waving palm trees and the garden, depending on the ‘Beach View’ or ‘Garden View’ category.

Wellness

A small wellness oasis right on the beach invites you to relax with a massage. You can also end the day in the jacuzzi on the beach, with a gentle breeze and the salty smell of the sea providing a wonderful backdrop.

As already mentioned, electricity and hot water are generated by solar panels. Furthermore, care is taken to produce as little waste as possible and to dispose of unavoidable rubbish properly. Enjoy a carefree stay at the Coconut Beach Lodge.

DAY 1 – Arrival Nairobi

Arrival in Narobi at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Pick up and transfer to the hotel in Nairobi for an overnight stay before the safari. Overnight at Hotel Tobriana (Bed & Breakfast basis).

DAY 2 – Transfer to the Masai Mara

Arrival JKIA in the morning. Pick up and drive to Rhino Watch Lodge. Rhino Watch Lodge is ideally located in one of the best places to see the Big Five and the endangered rhino in the neighbouring Solio Ranch, Aberdare National Park and Ol Pejeta. Arrive in time for lunch. In the afternoon, drive to Aberdare Country Club Sanctuary for a giraffe walk. Here you will go on a relaxed foot safari among giraffes, gazelles, zebras and antelopes. The ranger will be happy to tell you about the colonial past of the region and the country club.
Overnight stay at Rhino Watch Safari Lodge (tent, full board).

DAY 3 – Solio Rhino Sanctuary

Today you get up early to observe wild animals in the Solio Rhino Sanctuary. Feel the mystical light under the fever acacias and the morning sun. Experience the plains of the ranch as they were 200 years ago with large family groups of white rhino, buffalo, antelope and gazelle. Solio is home to diverse ecosystems ranging from semi-arid bush savannahs to grassy plains and swampy landscapes. Lunch will be picnic boxes. Further game viewing at the ranch.
Return to Rhino Watch Safari Lodge (tent, full board).

DAY 4 – Waterfall & Crater Lake Game Sanctuary

After breakfast, drive into the Great East African Valley to Lake Naivasha. Short stopover at the Magnificent Thompson Falls, a beautiful sight. It is the largest waterfall in Kenya with a height of 74 metres. Later, drive to Crater Lake Game Sanctuary. Arrive at your camp in time for lunch. Afternoon at leisure to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The area is alive with hundreds of bird species. At night, enjoy a night game drive in the sanctuary. If you are lucky, this is a great opportunity to see hippos, spring hares, leopards and a large number of nocturnal species.

DAY 5 – Lake Naivasha

This morning we rise early for a boat cruise on Lake Naivasha. The boat cruise on Lake Naivasha is an exciting yet relaxing safari experience on the lake. Here we can spot hippos and numerous bird species including the famous kingfisher, fish eagles, herons, jacanas and many more.
We return to camp for lunch. In the afternoon, a guided nature walk is planned for us. You are allowed to explore this protected area on foot. The walk will take you along trails by the lake, to the crater rim or even into the reserve where we can see a number of wild animals at close range. Another night game drive follows in the evening.

DAY 6 – Boat trip & transfer to Maasai Mara

Another boat trip is scheduled. Then we drive to the world famous Maasai Mara Reserve, home to a large number of bird species and wildlife, the Big 5 with great opportunities for wildlife and bird watching. We arrive in time for lunch. Later we set off on our first game drive in this incredible reserve.

DAY 7 – 10 – Maasai Mara Reserve

The next three days are dedicated to discovering the best of the Maasai Mara. Each morning we set off on an early game drive, have breakfast in the bush and then return to camp for lunch. Then game drives again until evening, OR a full day of game drives with lunch in the Mara.

Mara Big Five Camp

The Mara Big Five Camp has three different types of tents for you, which are furnished in a rustic style. The standard double tents have two single beds or, in the superior double tent, one double bed. The family tents have two double beds. The dining tent and a sheltered outdoor area are located in the rest of the Mara Big Five Camp. There is enough space for all guests. In the bush bar, comfortable seating areas offer you space in the evening to chat with other travellers and share your experiences of the day. There is also a charging station for your devices.

Activities

Excursions & Safaris. Learn more about the traditions of the hearty Masai people during a visit to a Masai village. Get an insight into their daily life in the bush. Or dive deep into the Masai Mara on a jeep safari or bush walk. All safaris take place with experienced guides and at least one Masai. Special tours for birdwatchers can of course also be organised.
Culinary delights in the bush. Whether a tasty bush breakfast or delicious sundowners while watching the wild animals in close proximity. A very special culinary experience.
Balloon flight. The very special highlight is a balloon ride and watching the animals from lofty heights.

Your accommodation – the tents

Three different types of rustic tents await you at Mara Big Five Camp. The standard double tents are equipped with two single beds, while the superior double tents have a double bed and you can make yourself comfortable in two double beds in the family tent. The comfortable mattresses in all tents ensure a restful night’s sleep. Furthermore, a desk, including charging station and a bathroom with shower, washbasin, WC and hot water provide the necessary comfort. There is seating with a table in front of the tents. Solar energy and a hot water system are available. Towels and bed linen are also provided.

Catering at Mara Big Five Camp

Specially trained kitchen staff cook fresh meals daily from local produce to ensure a balanced diet for a long day on safari. Breakfast is available as “English” and “Continental”. A bar with two types of beer and various wines as well as a selection of spirits is available.

Environmental awareness & sustainability

Sustainability and a conscious use of resources is a top priority: shower water is immediately recycled and rinse water is also recycled after being treated by a biofilter. Electricity is generated from solar energy. Hot water is heated exclusively using solar energy. Waste is separated and taken to Nairobi for recycling. Organic waste is transported to Talek and composted.

The camp team & the safari drivers

The staff at Mara Big Five Camp are friendly and well-trained Kenyans. The guards and guides are Maasai. The team is always attentive and endeavours to make your stay as enjoyable and memorable as possible. All driver-guides speak perfect English and are among the most experienced drivers in Kenya. Hardly a movement in the thicket escapes the eyes of these professionals. They know how to put the cars in the right light and quickly understand the wishes of the photographers.

Journey

The Mara Big Five Camp is located in the village of Telek, which lies directly on the Masai Mara. A large nature reserve which borders the south-eastern border of Tanzania and the famous Serengeti National Park.

Itinerary Rhino Watch Safari & Big Five

DAY 1 – Arrival

Arrival in the evening in Nairobi where we will be waiting for you and take you to your guest room. Welcome to the Rhino Watch Safari & Big Five!

Day 2 – Transfer to Rhino Watch Safari Lodge

After a delicious breakfast at your accommodation, our journey through the biodiversity of Kenya begins. We make our way to Rhino Watch Safari Lodge and have planned a few stops along the way. We stop for lunch at the Tana River. There, locals catch tilapia fish for us. This is prepared for you on the spot and eaten together with the fishermen. Our next stop takes us to a fruit and vegetable market. You are welcome to buy the local and fresh produce from the local farmers. Afterwards we arrive at the Rhino Watch Safari Lodge, your accommodation for the entire stay.

DAY 3 – Safari in the Solio Game Reserve

Our full-day safari takes us to the well-known Solio Game Reserve. This reserve has been dedicated to the protection and conservation of black and white rhino for decades. A rich diversity of species in the reserve also allows sightings of other animals. There are zebras, buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, oryxes, antelopes, Thompson’s gazelles, impalas, waterbucks and warthogs to marvel at. For lunch, we will look for a shady spot and have our picnic close to the herds of animals.

DAY 4 – Giraffe and bird watching

This day begins with a visit to a herd of giraffes. The herd is so familiar with the presence of humans that it is often possible to get within a few metres of them. In the afternoon, we climb up to an elevated platform on the lodge grounds. From there, many birds can be observed, which gather at the nearby pond.

DAY 5 – Excursion to Aberdare National Park

The impressive Aberdare National Park lies in the middle of a mountain range and is one of the last rainforest refuges in Africa. It is particularly worthy of protection due to its rich biodiversity of flora and fauna. The protected area encompasses several ecosystems, from the mountain cloud forest with its crystal-clear and fish-rich water, to the bamboo forests and extensive moorland areas. The forest elephant, which is difficult to spot but no less impressive, can be found in all this diversity. Buffalo as well as the giant forest hog and a fairly large population of black rhino can also be spotted. The shy leopards are resident in the vastness of the park and with a bit of luck we can also observe them. But of course there are also over 250 species for our bird fans to discover!

DAY 6 – Relaxing at the lodge

We already have an exciting itinerary of the Rhino Watch Safari behind us. After the first eventful days, we have planned the sixth day as a day of relaxation. There is plenty to discover on the extensive grounds if you wish. Or you can relax and enjoy the sounds of Africa from your accommodation.

DAY 7 – Game drive in Ol Pejeta Game Reserve

The vast 350 km² reserve stretches across a mosaic of grasslands, wooded grasslands, acacia woodlands to an evergreen thicket and is home to an indescribable variety of wildlife to be discovered. The reserve is known as the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, making it one of the highlights of our Rhino Watch Safari itinerary! With a bit of luck, we will have the opportunity to see other members of the Big Five. We will also visit the chimpanzee reserve, a project of the Jane Goodall Foundation, in the centre of the park. Due to the dense population of predators in the park, there is a good chance of spotting some of them. All these animals, the breathtaking nature and the views across the open plains make this last safari day of our round trip a very special and unique finale.

DAY 8 – Departure

Today is your departure day and after breakfast we will take you back to the airport in Nairobi. We are also happy to offer you a selection of extension programmes, a short safari in Samburu Park or to Lake Bogoria, the paradise of the flamingos. Please contact us and we can introduce you to the various programmes.

Below you will find the exact itinerary of our Family Safari Special. A round trip for the whole family. Kenya is a multifaceted country and with our safari you will experience this beautiful flora and fauna up close.

Itinerary Family Safari Special

DAY 1 – Arrival

Transfer from Nairobi International Airport to the guesthouse in a quiet suburb of the capital. Please arrange your flight times with us. We will also be happy to book the flights for you.

DAY 2 – Lake Baringo

The family safari adventure begins! Immediately after a delicious breakfast, the first drive takes us through the spectacular Rift Valley. We continue past Lake Nakuru to Lake Baringo, our destination for the next two days. There are picturesque islands in the middle of the freshwater lake and the waters are populated by crocodiles and hippos. You can get a closer look at them during a boat trip out onto the lake, but sightings are also possible from your accommodation directly on the shores of the lake. Lake Baringo is not only home to hippos and crocodiles, over 450 bird species of the 1,200 species native to Kenya can also be found on this lake. The semi-nomadic Pokot tribe, a pastoralist and cultivating people, can also be found on the shores of the lake.

We spend 2 nights at Robert’s Camp on the shores of the lake.

DAY 3 – Safari at Lake Bogoria

Today we take you to one of the most beautiful and spectacular lakes in the Rift Valley, Lake Bogoria. The blue-green algae in the water of the lake attract thousands and thousands of flamingos in search of food. On some days there are so many that the shores of the lake shimmer pink. But other bird species such as the sacred ibis, ostrich or grey crowned crane are also among the lake’s visitors. On favourable days, a wide variety of birds of prey such as ospreys can be observed. Gazelles, zebras, buffaloes, impalas and baboons also line the banks of the Bogoria. Another rare resident of the lake is the mighty Greater Kudu. With its spiralling, magnificently shaped horns, it makes an imposing appearance and with a bit of luck we will come across it. A natural spectacle not to be forgotten can be found on the western shore. The geysers and hot springs located there round off the day perfectly. A wonderful start to our family safari.

DAY 4 – Boat trip on Lake Baringo

In the morning, we take a boat trip on the species-rich Lake Baringo. In the middle of Kenya’s birdwatching paradise, we go on a discovery tour for crocodiles and hippos. After lunch, we continue our journey to the Rhino Watch Lodge. Here we will be accommodated in luxurious safari tents for the next five nights.

DAY 5 – Solio Game Reserve

We have reached the halfway point of our family safari itinerary. Today it takes us to the Solio Game Reserve, just a few minutes away. In this fenced and private park, the protection of black rhinos is a top priority. It is therefore probably the best place to observe these animals. Other animal species can also be seen in the Solio Game Reserve. Enjoy the local wildlife with elephants and buffaloes as well as zebras, giraffes, oryxes, antelopes, Thompson’s gazelles, impalas, waterbucks and warthogs. The park is also home to several leopards, lions and cheetahs. At lunchtime, we have a picnic in the shade and close to the herds of animals. Dinner will be at the lodge with a marvellous view of Mount Kenya. Let yourself be spoilt by the chef’s culinary skills.

DAY 6 – Giraffe walk

You have the morning at leisure at the lodge. In the afternoon we set off to visit a small private reserve just 15 minutes from the lodge. During our game drive you can take the opportunity to see and photograph giraffes, zebras and antelopes.

DAY 7 – The Aberdare National Park

Today a safari takes us to Aberdare National Park, the park offers a variety of wildlife and ecosystems. During our safari we marvel at one of Africa’s last intact rain shelter areas in the middle of the mountain range, then on to the dense bamboo forests, which then give way to extensive moorlands. Some of the animals to be spotted are the forest elephant, the buffalo, the giant forest hog and also some of the big cats, such as the leopard. The well-known black rhino also has a large population in Aberdare National Park. Birdwatchers are also well catered for on this day, as 250 species are represented here.

DAY 8 – Safari in the Ol Pejeta Game Reserve

This mosaic of grasslands, wooded grasslands, acacia forests and evergreen thickets stretches over more than 350 square kilometres. During our safari you will have the opportunity to discover an amazing variety of wildlife. The park is home to black and white rhinos in the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa and non-native chimpanzees can also be spotted in the chimpanzee reserve, a project of the Jane Goodall Foundation. All the Big Five and Grevy’s zebras can also be found there. Ol Pejeta Game Reserve is also known for having one of the densest predator populations in Kenya. All these animals, the breathtaking nature and the views over the open plains make this family safari day of our itinerary something very special.

This is our last night at Rhino Watch Safari Lodge.

DAY 9 & 10 – Safari in Samburu National Park

After breakfast, we head towards Samburu National Park. The drive leads along the contours of Mount Kenya to a semi-arid and rugged area. Around its lifeline, on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River, a rich variety of flora and fauna has developed. Enlivened by huge crocodile populations, the national park is famous for some rare species, such as the Grevyszebra, the Gerenuk, the Beisa Onyx or the reticulated giraffe. It is also an ideal place to observe lions, cheetahs and leopards. The water of the river attracts a wide variety of animals from the surrounding savannah plains to drink, bathe and feed. Birdwatchers also have a wonderful day, as the river basin is teeming with around 365 bird species.

We will spend two nights in the middle of Samburu National Park. The Elephant Bedroom Camp is located directly on the banks of the river.

On the last evening of the family safari, we will organise a small farewell party for you and your relatives.

DAY 11 – Morning safari in Samburu National Park & departure

To make your departure day another highlight, we organise a short game drive in the morning before it is time for you to return to Nairobi and catch your flight home.

In contrast to our diving cruise in the Azores, our diving cruise is designed so that you spend eight days and seven nights entirely on the yacht. You have greater flexibility and by fully utilising your days at sea, you can do more dives at the best times of day. Enjoy the marvellous underwater world of the Azores with a maximum of eight passengers.

In contrast to other popular areas for diving cruises, such as Egypt or the Maldives, it makes sense to go on a diving trip with small yachts during the relatively short diving season in the Azores. Dive spots can be reached more quickly and your trip is more flexible in the event of weather-related changes to the routes. Another advantage is that you can stay longer at the best dive sites, as the yacht can anchor overnight at the nearest marina. Generally speaking, you will spend most of the nights in harbours or marinas and have dinner ashore. Exceptions are the night at sea at the Princess Alice Bank or, on your cruise around Santa Maria, the night at the Formigas.

Possible itinerary for your diving cruise around the Azores:

DAY 1 – Arrival

On the arrival day of your diving cruise, you will meet at around 19:00 at the marina in Madalena on Pico, where you will board the boat. An initial briefing will give you an overview of the town of Madalena and some delicious restaurants. The following days will be dominated by your dives.

DAY 2 – 7 – Dive, dive and dive some more

Depending on the weather, you will cruise in the central archipelago to visit diving spots. Overnight stays take place in the harbours of Horta (Faial), Madalena (Pico) and Velas (Sao Jorge), as well as on the high seas during the Princess Alice Bank night. You may also sleep in the harbour of Angra de Heroismo (Terceira). Your diving cruise is characterised by a high degree of flexibility. Current sightings, for example of blue sharks, are passed on via an information network so that you have the opportunity to get to the relevant diving spots in good time. Other highlights of the Azores include huge scorpion fish, parrotfish, moray eels, schools of barracuda, bonitos and groupers. During the night dives, nudibranchs, crustaceans and alicia mirabilis can be discovered. The top experience of your diving cruise – the blackwater dive – takes place at a depth of more than 1000 metres. The Sao Jorge coast, with the waterfalls off Punta Topo, also offers a wonderful trip. There are also great dive sites where you can admire the animals of the Atlantic.

DAY 8 – Departure

After all these exciting days and nights, your departure is imminent on the eighth day. You will check out on Pico by 10:00 am and be taken to the airport. Of course you can spend more days in the Azores, we have some interesting ideas for an extension programme, such as an island hopping round trip or further excursions for whale watching and swimming with dolphins. Travel advice

The yacht is comfortably furnished and offers enough space to spend a few days on the high seas. To ensure comfort and safety, please note that your diving equipment and luggage should be properly and securely stowed at all times. Diving bags and hard cases cannot usually be brought on board and will be stowed safely ashore for space reasons.

Special dietary requirements can be catered for on request. The crew on board consists of three people and will always endeavour to provide you with excellent service. Nevertheless, a helping hand is always welcome.

Your itinerary will be flexible according to the weather conditions. It is therefore possible that your journey will first take you to the fascinating Princess Alice Bank. The immediate underwater environment of the Azores sometimes fails to live up to the species-rich scenery of the first few days. The typical inhabitants of the Atlantic prevail here, instead of mobula rays, blue sharks or manta rays.

Short biography of Johnne Krüger

Johnny Krüger is particularly fond of animals in motion. born in 1961 and raised in South Africa, it was there that he discovered his burning passion for wildlife and photography. He has been photographing animals in their natural environment since 1980. He is a reference photographer for the lens manufacturer SIGMA and has received several national and international awards. Notable successes include the Trierenberger Super Circuit and the Sony Awards. Johnny Krüger is ‘German Champion 2018’ of the German Photographic Association (DVF) and was honoured with the ‘Ludwig for Nature Photography’ at the Pirmasens Photo Days 2014. He holds the title of ‘Master of the FIAP’, International Federation of Photography/Fédération Internationale de l`Art Photographique.
